Van Nuys, California
- ( Sparring
) at Blade Sparring at HOC
This was a fun fight. It was run like a tournament, with judges, but still kind of informal. Overall, the atmosphere was fun. I've known Nick a while, and done muay thai sparring with him countless times, but this was one of the first times we've sparred with knives. It was a whole lot of fun, and at several points during the fight we all busted out laughing.
What I Did Well:
I did a good job of baiting with the knife hand, and then pulling it away at the last second only to shoot in for the neck. I got 4 points that way right at the beginning of the fight.
What I Did Poorly:
I also put the knife hand out there as bait and had it chopped, which makes it more like a present or free points than bait. I did this a few times in my subsequent fights today as well. I either need to keep the knife moving, get better at pulling the knife away, or give it up if my opponent isn't going to over commit.
